Gratitude: a positive emotion; the positive state of being grateful; an overwhelming feeling of appreciation and thankfulness, and the desire to return kindness to others.
"Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful." Colossians 3:15
When was the last time you stopped and took the time to really give thanks for all that you have or said thank you for a simple act of kindness?
I am sure that we have all experienced being at a store and holding the door for someone who said, “thank you”, and someone who just rushed through without a word. We don’t hold the door for a “thank you”, we hold the door out of kindness and courteous.
Are we so busy that we take for granted something as simply as saying thank you someone for opening a door for us; or being grateful for the wonderful things or people that we have in our lives right now – no matter how big or how small.
I think we have all experienced gratitude at some point, and the feeling that comes with it, whether it was a simple compliment, someone showing kindness or help, or a gift.
Research shows: that writing down just three (3) things that you are grateful for increases happiness; ending your day with gratitude and confidence will improve your happiness and sleep.
Daily practice of gratitude can create a positive impact on your health & wellness, reduce stress, create balance, give clarity on what you want more of and less of, you may even draw in more positive things to be grateful for!
What are you grateful for right now?
Write down what you are truly grateful for and really feel how that makes you feel inside. These feelings can create a huge impact in your life. You can also use these feelings to help change your mood throughout the day or whenever you need uplifting.
You don't have to write long paragraphs - it can be as simple as I am grateful for "my family", "the beautiful sunny day", “God chose me to wake up this morning”, or "the bus arriving on time". Only write down what you are truly thankful for and only write down positive things - no negativity allowed in a gratitude journal! You can keep it on your desk, your favorite relaxing spot, by your bed and write in it before bed and/or when you wake up. There is no wrong time for gratitude, whether written down or just giving thanks - you can choose what times works best for you.
No matter the age - everyone and anyone can benefit by writing about what they are grateful for.
"Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus".1 Thessalonians 5:16–18
